Description
a replica also of a ship that called Hawaii as their port. at a dock in Euclid,CA. it was built of steel in Hawaii in 1988
Hawaiian Chieftain is a 103-foot square-rigged topsail ketch owned and operated by Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority. Built in Lahaina, Hawaii in 1988, she is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional design based on the European trading vessels that called in Hawaii during the 18th-century. Each year Hawaiian Chieftain sails the West Coast from British Columbia to San Diego in company with the Lady Washington providing “Voyages of Discovery” sailing and dockside educational programs. This hands-on-history program teaches 4th & 5th grade students about the exploration of the west coast during the 1790’s. On weekends, the ships offer dockside tours and sea battle reenactment sails for the public. Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington also offer “Two Weeks Before the Mast,” a crew training program, on a year round basis. Summer programs include “Family Camp” and “Youth Camp” for ages 12 to 16. Hawaiian Chieftain programs are designed to educate, excite, inspire and empower students and the general public. Hawaiian Chieftain also offers sail training and team building for adults, private charters and natural history cruises.

Nice shot of her! Hello from Think of me Hill, one mile from said historical seaport!
Nice photo of an unusual ship! All steel! And thanks for the text! Instructive and entertaining. Beautiful colors in the shot. Though the Pacific is usually anything but calm, does the ship have an engine in case of total calm? Interesting jump from Los Gatos (the cats) to BC! Keep up the good work! :-)
