Description
Union Station, Washington, D.C. (Opened in 1907)
Since Tara and I seem to be in the "columns" business this week, thought you might like to see the façade of the D.C. railroad station.
We are staying only three blocks away from here. We simply walk here to connect with bus transportation that can take us almost anywhere we want to go within the city. And the station is full of shops and restaurants. Oh, and even trains come and go from here:-) These days 28,000 people transit the station daily by train. During peak usage during WWII, 200,000 people a day travelled through this station. (12 tracks today; 32 tracks during WWII years)

Very nice capture and interesting information Bill.
nice picture!
Beautiful shot, Bill. Now I get to see the "whole" thing! A lot better than reading about it or seeing small snap shops in a book or magazine. Did you know a GG1 locomotive once jumped the end of track and crashed into the basement? And that said locomotive was cut in 3 sections to get it out, It was then put together and gave many more years of service! Something I doubt would be possible with today's locomotives! And, of course, the hole in the station floor was repaired. Keep up the good work! :-)
Excellent shot !!!!
Would love to go on the tour!! Super photo.
Great on full image mate.
from the outside one dont think it is a station, looks more like a library! interesting capture and info 😃
Extremely imposing!
Superb capture my friend. God bless.
The word 'monumental' seems to fit. Good to see that not every place is compelled to replace anything old with new and boring architecture. An outstanding capture.
That's a great shot of the station, Bill! Very classic architecture, and I love the contrast with the buses with the red and yellow signs.
I'm glad to see your picture, because it allowed me to make comparisons and figure out why KC's Union Station is so much bigger even though it looks about the same! Thanks! :)
A beautiful structure but definitely past its prime!
