I worked with people on the street for many years (and with homeless shelters, missions, etc), and I know many of these faces. The holidays are particularly hard for people without homes, or who live in shelters, because they are ultra-aware that they don't have what many people have. It's a cruel time of year, for them. So it's always nice when people give to the needy as well as to those who already live comfortably. (And it's nice when they give all year round.)
Your scene is a classic late 19th C Christmas scene, something out of a movie. You handle the costumes consummately, as always; as well as the placing of the people. And you created real charm in the snow and the old facades (and those big snowflakes). Then you have the homeless children---there's even one in the corner, way back on the right. They are left out, hoping for a handout. You did this sensitively, Ute. One hopes that all these happy people will stop to care for those less fortunate. A beautiful image, and touching as well.
