Description
This is the largest of the hoverflies in the UK and lays it's eggs in the nests of social wasps that build in tree cavities, including the Hornet.
I love to see them, they are so spectacular! The ivy flowers in my garden are a very popular food source this time of year.
Not as sharp as I would like, but it was probably 8 feet away and I only do hand held.
