Description
Went back into some old files and found this surfer shot, one of MANY I took while I lived there a few years ago. The golden glow comes from sunrise; I'd leave the house at dark, get to the Huntington Beach pier just as the sun came up, grab a BIG coffee and take it all in.

Oh my goodness! Your photo and description of watching the morning break over Huntington Beach sounds so idyllic. Here in the Netherlands We sometimes go watch the sunset over the ocean or in my case the Markermeer (a large lake where the Zuiderzee used to be). I LOVE just taking it all in. :)
