it can look pretty but ivy does so much damage to wood. back when I was working I was going to do repairs on a second floor window and I had to move a bed. the ivy was growing inside of the house under the bed as it made it's way through the wall

Lovely and charming find. Such places are very rare in western Canada. Most likely because most homes are wood which would be quickly destroyed by the plants. I do know of one though. It captured my imagination when I was a child. The Sylvia Hotel in Vancouver is covered in Ivy. The building is brick though, so perhaps more tolerant of the ivy. I imagine it takes quite a bit of upkeep though. (Brick construction is not a good idea in Vancouver though as it is vulnerable to earthquakes.) Oh, I wonder what this little house looks like in the fall. The hotel turns brilliant red then.
I will visit this place in the fall again to make some shots of the colored leafs.
