Description
Ferndale, California, has the most amazing cemetery! It's on a steep hill, as you see. (I think Bill is going to post a picture from the top of the hill, but don't hold me to that ... I'm not responsible for his behavior.) I hope he does, because the view from the top is superb.
It's an old-fashioned style graveyard, with low concrete walls dividing one family plot from the next. Each plot contains anywhere between one and six or eight graves. We spent all afternoon there, and enjoyed every minute! Those glorious pink bushes are mature rhododendrons. We got lucky, seeing them all in bloom.
We're near Marilyn's place (beachzz), so we got to visit with her for a while this weekend. Such a treat! Marilyn and I met here on RR almost nine years ago, and so far haven't run out of things to talk about. :P
Tomorrow we head north again. One more day in California to look at big trees, and then on to the Oregon Coast!

A fascinating view. I read where Ferndale is on the list of the top ten prettiest towns in California. Everything is neat and clean (to include the cemetery). The town buildings/homes all date from the late 1800s/early 1900s. Love this view with all the Rhododendrons in full bloom.

As a child I used to go to a cemetery to read. It was quite and no one bothered me. This is a pretty place.
I love seeing this view with all the beautiful Rodies in bloom. So nice to hear you got to visit with Marilyn too.

Yes, I saw Bill's photo first, but can't keep from looking at yours as well. This could be in rural Sweden. Well kept graves, different sizes of monuments, stone edges (not concrete) between family plots, and trees, bushes. Here, the colors are so striking - various greens and the pink - red of the flowers. Beautiful, and peaceful. Keep up the good work! :-)

That's an amazing cemetery, and an amazing photo, Tara! Looks like a cloudy day, but the even, muted lighting suits this so well. It really gives this a wonderful mood, and the Rhododendrons seem to be marching up the hill. So lovely!

What's that they say about people are dying to get in? I love weathered old cemeteries. Such character, such diversity. Now days they throw you in the ground and put a plaques over you so the lawnmower can run right over you. No muss, no fuss, no character.
Seems like you & Bill found very different (but equally appealing) ways to capture your experience at this cemetery. Looking forward to lots more photos when you get to the Oregon coast...
This is very cool, but can you imagine how difficult it would be to mow that grass.
