Description
The Interamerican Highway, Highway 1, runs throughout Panama on to Costa Rica and points north. In Panama, all the small towns along its route have rest stops for the local bus service. These busses provide transportation for the local population. The rest stops allow passengers to take a brake, they provide food and service. These stops have no air condition, the front facing the road is usually open, local food is available at minimum cost, cash only, and only Spanish is spoken. There are normally no tourists using these places. To keep the hot, humid air circulating, fans are mounted and the slats on the few windows are kept open.
