I got a little ahead of myself with my just previous gallery post; the event portrayed in this image is actually before "Going under the Ice Shelf". In the novel, as the Nautilus sails south finding less an less ice-free water, Ned Land exclaims "La banquise!" (the ice bank), when they see what appears to be a wall of ice in front of them. The accompanying original illustration shows a forbidding landscape with ice peaks and a ghostly mirage of peaks above it, the optical phenomenon called "fata morgana". In an ensuing conversation with Aronnax about how to get out of the ice, Nemo explains he intends to continue south until he reaches the pole. When the professor asks how they can get through the wall of ice, Nemo states they will go under it. I've done my image not exactly per the novel but within my Nemo's daughter variation series. The basic scene was composed and rendered in layers in Poser 11 Pro. The fata morgana was created form heavily processed image clips. The layers were post-processed in PhotoShop and Corel PhotoPaint. The environment is mostly Winter 4 Ice with a little Poser Ocean peeking through, and with one of Flink's skies in the background. The Nautilus is my own. The figures on deck are Nemo's lieutenant, Nemo and his daughter. The only items recognizable on the figures are the Explorer Jacket (3-D Arena) on the men and the Paddy coat on the woman.
