Description
This is a test render for a Kiwi environment I'm working on. It shows the entrance to the nesting burrow and the iconic Kidney Fern (Trichomanes reniforme) which is endemic to New Zealand.
The Southern Brown Kiwi has 2 subspecies and 2 subspecies variants. All Southern Browns are found on South and Stewart Islands. The variations between the subspecies is very slight and is more location based. The 4 types of Southern Brown are referred to as The Northern Fiordland Brown, the Southern Fiordland Brown, the Stewart Island Brown and the 'Haast' Brown. The 'Haast' Brown is the most rufous colored of the subspecies with a strongly decurved bill.
There are about 20,000 total Southern Browns left with a 2% population decline per year. Their biggest threats are domestic cats and habitat loss.
