Description
Avenue of the Giants refers to a 31 mile long stretch of scenic State Route 254 that winds along Eel River through Humboldt Redwood State Park in Northern California. The park protects an old stand of Coast Redwoods (Sequoia Sempervirens). These trees are the tallest trees on Earth, reaching heights of over 350-ft. and can be 1,500 to over 2,000 years old (Source: Wikipedia et.al).

I am in awe when I am able to stand next to these giants. I have only been to the Redwood forest near San Jose
Coming in from Oregon there was a stretch of highway where the combination of mist from the ocean and the smoke from some forest fire made the air hazy enough to see the slanted sunlight coming through the trees in shafts. Unfortunately there were no pullouts and I was unable to capture it. One gets the impression as if driving in a cathedral!
Yup---this is home to me. I drive thru these all the time and never tire of their beauty!!

I had to laugh at Marilyn's comment, because those trees always make me think of her. :) Every time we go to that area we want to see Marilyn and the Redwoods, and the two are linked in my mind!
