Touches of "Singin' in the Rain," mixed with Truffaut, Sunset Boulevard, Laurel and Hardy, and The Woman in Red. You're evoking old films; and the woman in the center is dressed for a great Broadway dance performance. I expect her to jump up and dance in the rain, the way Gene Kelly did in the movies. You've spotlighted her, too, with a "Main Street" behind her, also in rain. And she has the dancer's cane; and her outfit is done beautifully, as always. (In fact, the way she's sitting on her chair, she reminds us of Cabaret...you must have musical theater in your mind these days! Maybe you should get up and dance!) And, as in another recent image of yours, you handle the rain very well: It blends into the scene, not 'against' it. You do theatrical images extremely well; and this image seems to say that there is joy even in the rain. Because, while she's "framed" by Jeanne Moreau and Barbara Stanwyck---two very serious faces---she's smiling, she's dressed in white, the spotlight is on her, and she has Laurel and Hardy to add the dance. Wonderful image, Ute.
