Description

I couldn't sleep, so I decided to post this. Another "map painting". I did whole series of these, years back. (This one was last week.) It's just data turned into 'art': The words and numbers are imaginary... I'll return tomorrow. Have a fine week! Mark (The detail's much fuller in zoom) -------------------------------------------------------------

I find myself wondering what this place looks like and how it would be to visit. Are the numbers elevations or depths? Either way, I don't think this is earth. More mysteries.

I thought of your maps last night whilst watching Countryfile on the BBC. There was an artist whose husband is a park ranger who makes beautiful stainless steel bas reliefs based on maps of the park. I can neither remember her name or the district, but I will look on iplayer and mail you, you will love the,.

Maps are always fascinating. They represent so many places I've yet to go, and I've been a lot of places. I like the forestry maps the best, and the thousands of fascinating names people have come up with to mark a place.

A very intriguing piece and concept. Turning a map into art. At first glance, the face-like forms in the center, in blue and black, remind me of the happy/sad masks seen in theater. And it seems fitting, because this map is like a glorious stage, with so much to explore and experience. There is a predominance of green, like a translucent wash, giving it a living feeling, and the calm healing beauty of nature. And on closer inspection every color of the Chakra/rainbow is inside this map. Even a golden path leading to some new adventure. There are even glowing orbs and moons, which feels other-worldly. It is like a map of the spirit, to go places one has never been. An illuminating work, Mark.

I love this; maps are my faves, and you even got isobars...when I lived in Virginia they would show us weather maps with isobars when weather was approaching, and it became apparent that isobars were responsible for weather. Right? That's my take, and I'm sticking to it. Marvelous work, Mark!!

This is absolutely delicious! If you're thinking of having another "map-art period," I'm all for it. This is soul-soothing stuff for me. It's so easy for me to get totally lost in the details, and it really IS like looking at a map. Love it!
