One of the challenges on Flickr was this subject.
I had to look it up on Wiki, as it is something I have never understood, in spite of it being explained to me by several folk.
Why not just toss a coin?

I never understood the game either, and I played it a million times as a child. But I guess rock is the biggie, as it can pummel everyone else; and paper is the loser, as it's destroyed by the other two. (Lovely communal game, isn't it?)...Well, you put the game to rest in this texture laden and altogether fascinating image. I love that rock, it's something from a meteor. And the contrasts between all three are terrific, esp in zoom. Love the textures on the paper, that's either some kind of 'kraft' paper, or maybe it's waxed. It's a terrific image, and maybe it'll put an end to that dumb game forever. The black and white version is positively sinister, oozing with a near Cold War menace. I love them both.
And btw, great story about the Hasselblad photographer and the 'groynes'. (Those Hasselblads sell for more money than most cars!) I've been stopped by police too, but for photographing electrical transformers (which are apparently targets), not for sea-worthy porn...
I also have never understood the game; if rock always wins why would anyone ever be anything else? Excellent literal representation of this!

It's relatively pointless, but I suppose it's a way to kill time. Paper does cover rock, rock crushes scissors, scissors cut paper. It's circular. There's a version that adds Mr. Spock from Star Trek, and a lizard, but I'm unclear on the expanded rules.
LOL rock, paper, scissors is a bit more challenging !
