Description
This great no-nonsense waterfowl, shown surveying its watery realm for prey, captured back on 5/18/12, at beautiful Legg Lake in the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
I hid behind a tree, with my DSLR, to avoid being noticed by this skittish creature. You have to go Ninja with these guys.

What a marvelous bird my friend... Fantastic capture also !!!
a fine crop for this long-necked beautiful bird, you got everything from its eye to its tail, obviously unperturbed by you hiding behind a tree...The water is just fascinating, it's like a series of glass blocks in the way the ripples create all those squares on the surface. Almost a high key shot, a scintillating capture of this 'no-nonsense waterfowl' (good name), wading in the most abstract waters I've seen in a long time. With all that diagonal activity, he's cropped in dead-perfect center. Fine piece of work, Harry.
Stunning capture of this heron, Harry; I saw one today on the hunt at Juanita Bay, but the light wasn't this good. Well done!
A very handsome specimen he is Harry! Your stealthy approach was worth the effort, this is a beautiful image of him.
