Description
Nope ... these are the bloom stalks of some sort of agave plant. I believe they're native to Mexico, but I could be wrong about that.

No trick. I just stood there and took this picture at eye level. I'm about 5'5" in my shoes, so these are 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 feet tall.

Great shot. When I was a little girl I remember my grandma used to make pincushions out of the dried stalks of Century plants. The center is soft and fibrous and they made very nice pincushions with no work other than cutting them into chunks. You could paint a cuted design on the outside if you wanted, but that was optional.

Definitely looks like asparagus stalks, but I'll take your word for it that it's a human-sized agave plant. I've been using agave syrup as a sweetener instead of sugar for quite a while...

Agave flower spikes grow at an amazing rate a friend had one that broke the glass in her glasshouse at nine feet and carried on to be about twenty four feet high, here in the UK it caused quite a stir and even got her and her plant in some national papers.

Nature is truly astonishing; what a great find, and I'm glad you explained the POV, because it would be the natural assumption that you were lying down on the ground shooting up. I can't imagine these being that tall, wow!
Indeed, there are amazing things to discover in this world, and one of them is "You"! And I would like to see a photo from "You" beside this Agave, so I can see with my own eyes the different, as I've no idea of the American sizes. But I guess your giant thing is your art, Tara!
