Description

No. 13 in a series on film actresses The H.R. Geiger-designed Alien was the most efficient killing machine in the known universe... then the Alien had the bad luck to encounter humans. Hard to believe it was almost more than 35 years ago that Ridley Scott and Geiger literally redefined alien iconography, replacing the ray-gun wielding, bug-eyed grey alien of the 1950s sic-fi film with an armor-plated, flesh ripping carnivore. I have a friend who was fresh out of art school in 1978 and was designing costumes for a romantic comedy on a British film lot. Geiger, as it happened, was in the next office, working on his drawings for Alien. "The whole thing was pretty creepy," she recalls -- meaning both the artist and his creations. Only later did she realize that while she was drawing pretty ruffled dresses, the creepy guy in the next office was forever altering our notions of life elsewhere in the universe. It's May Day and I was going to abandon Sci-Fi for straight-drama today, but there's a couple more sci-fi actress I just gotta do. Sigourney Weaver is one. The character morph is MRL Adriene Rendered in Poser because my DAZ Studio kept choking on the OOT Wild Waves Hair. Poser cranked right through in a few minutes. Thanks for viewing and for all the encouraging comments!

Excellent portrait of Ripley. Which Alien model did you use?

Ripley is MRL Adriene from RENDO. For the Alien,I tried a couple of the CG Share .obj models, but wasn't happy with the results. In the end, I did a quick and dirty digital painting in Studio Artist 4 using a reference photo: http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q153/locusta_album/Giger_Alien_final_side01.jpg For the final background, in PS I overlaid images of conduit, tubing and old engine heads, mostly from Ron's Cyborg Parts.

Ripley you are my hero but nature can cough up some nasty critters now and then... ;) Of course it doesn't hurt if H. R. Giger is on board!
