Description
Captured 4/12/15 @ 1:25 pm, at the once beautiful Descanso Gardens in beautiful La Cañada Flintridge, California.
I took a ton/tonne of these shots of the pads yesterday as I ventured about the Gardens, which was once a real beauty spot. Since I was last there in 2007, it has deteriorated to the point of having none of the lovely tulips and daffodils it was once famous for. They were dug up by the new management and replaced by daisies, zinnias and some other species I didn't recognize. The trees are still okay, there are benches everywhere, and the rose garden wasn't too bad, but the lush Seattle arboretum it is not. That, and the ongoing drought was in evidence everywhere. Despite all this, I was still able to sneak in 427 photos, which leaves a lot of postwork to perform. I'm still a bit stiff and sore after having negotiated the vast hill and dale terrain.
Arrivederci.

WOW !! absolutely wonderful picture !!!!
I like this ... Fantastic place ... Marvelous capture also !
Great capture! 427, that's a lot of photos! I'm stiff and sore just thinking about it ;)
It's hard to say what the future holds for a place like this. 427 captures to pass on to future generations to let them know we were once drought free. Excellent Work!!!
That's a lot of lily pads! Hopefully you can go back later when they are blooming. Shame about the changes and the drought. Your state suffers more than any of us. Nice shot, Harry.
Our lily pads are just beginning to show up, your crop looks quite full! A lovely shot of this little oasis, Harry!
a very great courage and a disappointment to the Arboretum !!! I love the pictures of their ponds with water lilies ... for me a symbol of silence and quiet !!!
.....or two! lol May need to be thinned out a bit to allow other life to survive.. But good shot anyway mate.. Nice colours. Rob
I know all about coming home with 400+ shots of the same place...This is one crowd of lily pads! It looks like the currents of this water (which are I assume breeze-driven) have pushed all of them to the shore. Or maybe it's just normal surface tensions. But what a pileup! The pic has a very thick repetitive texture, like some of your peeled paint shots, or sidewalk shots with debris, or broken sidewalk shots, etc. A very intense capture of repeated texture. The water in front has a very peaceful feeling, to contrast with this 'crowd' scene. And Nice to have the grasses in the background as the "wall" against which all this unfolds. As always, zoom reveals much more of your textures and light/shadow. An intense and very satisfying capture.
