Description
Captured 4/5/12, at the semi beautiful El Dorado Nature Center in beautiful Long Beach, California.
I didn't get too close to this wicked looking tree lest it reached out and wrapped its tentacle-like limbs around my body, squeezing the very life out of me.
Ciao.

Fantastic tree and very great shot !!!
Trees don' t do that ( normally ) so don' t be afraid :) Funny, it looks like it' s been swallowed by the earth. Therefore, you should've been afraid of standing on the ground ! Peter
Yeah, okay, Peter the stranger, but how about the quality of the photo, or don't you do those?
A very cool looking tree.
This is a Great Shot!!! I agree, wouldn't want to get too close!!!
Great shot! I'd just be worried about that low branch getting covered with leaves or snow and tripping the hell out of me ;)
Interesting tree..... Nice find. Aloha
Great shot of this unusually grown tree. It would be a fantastic scenery for a horror movie.
Superb capture !!!!!!
Interesting tree; it almost looks as though it's sinking into the ground. You just don't see limbs like that so close to the ground, do you. Nor do I recall seeing limbs which looked almost to have twists. Would certainly make for an interesting Halloween piece. Excellent capture!
It does look like it's buried up to its neck in leaves; what a very cool find. And of course it's very well captured, Harry!
Old and extremely natural looking, a lovely one.. In the dark or gloom,. i got to agree with you.. lol Nice shot, nice tree! Rob
I have a good hour or so, and it's time to go back to some of the images I missed in the last weeks. This was the day after your beautiful upload for my birthday, so it's a nice place to start. I understand what you mean by not wanting to get too close to a tree like this. And I agree with rangeriderrichard (sp?) about what happens when this thing gets covered in snow. i've tripped over trees like that, and fallen hard...In any case, it's a tough shot to get because of the big domineering trunk, and then the long reach of the branches. You composed it perfectly for its challenges, and the light on the branch side is a fine balance to the darker shadows of the trunk side. It's a big open-jawed beast, with those spindly arms reaching out into the world. The branches are captured tactile-y (bear with "tactile-y"), and they're all the more domineering because the surrounding trees seem so tame by comparison. Nice light on the branches too, and you caught a sweet bluish-almost-pink tint on the tree. A tough challenge, and you got it in its entirety. It's also a treat because we don't have trees like that in Chicago...It looks like a beast from a horror film. Fine and eerie capture of a big beautiful beast.
