Description

We have two Bougainvillea bushes on our property. The thorns are very sharp and are all over the bush. I have to wear leather gloves to trim them. Wikipedia says - Bougainvillea is a genus of thorny ornamental vines and bushes with flower like spring leaves near its flowers. They are native plants of South America. The vine species grow anywhere from 3 to 40 feet (1 to 12 meters) tall, scrambling over other plants with their spiky thorns. They are shiny green when rainfall occurs. The actual flower of the plant is small, .25 inches (.6 cm) and generally white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by three or six new growth leaves with the bright colors associated with the plant, including pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow. As the colorful leaves turn green - the flowers fall off. Bougainvillea are relatively pest-free plants. This will zoom and the flower on the far right is the sharpest. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Great shot Dana, we have a friend who grows these for a living but in the UK they have to be grown as a conservatory plant and only put outside in the summer. They now come in other colours besides pink ranging from white through yellow ,orange and even a variegated leaf and a miniature version and I believe there is a spineless version for Andrea.

Alan, I'd like to get my hands on a spineless version also. Dana

Think I first came across those because of my late Mother's interest in them in 1957 during our stay in Singapore. Nice to see an example all these years later. Well done!

In a certain way I'm a bit jealous that you have such an amazing, and most lovely looking plant in your garden, Dana. Your shot is fabulous and a feast for the eye. also it's such very clear that on zoom it looks like there are 'little dreadlocks' to see. Bravo for this overwhelmed colors, my friend.

Mies, The 'little dreadlocks' are more tiny white flowers but only 3 per cluster. De 'kleine dreadlocks' zijn meer kleine witte bloemen, maar slechts 3 per cluster. Dana
