Description
While I was driving yesterday, I passed a pond in which I saw this egret wading. I pulled over & was able to get one shot of him in the pond, but then he spotted me & flew up into this tree. The photo in the pond didn't come out that well & I thought this one in the tree was better...
Please zoom.

Great capture impressive bird
fine capture !
I'm waiting for your partridge in a pear tree pic!
Awesome shot, clean and brilliant, very very nice ^_^
Very good indeed. We need a new verse for 'The 12 days of Christmas" to replace the partridge in the pear tree.
A very good capture and you were blessed with a stroke of luck.
I'm with your friend (Alan? Steve? I can't remember his name ... sorry) ... and Andrea. I immediately thought, "two turtle doves and an egret in a fir tree!" Aside from all the nonsense, it's a great shot. :)
Great shot - that tree sure has a lot of pinecones!!!
Well speaking of the "12 days of christmas," I hadn't thought of that lyric (that a couple of people mentioned above), but now that I have, it fits well. (An aside that I hope doesn't bore you: The partridge was said to symbolize infidelity to christ, and the pear was fertility, pregnancy, coming of life. The bevy of lyrics for that song---and there are all kinds, if you don't already know of them---are amazingly rich, funny, wild, and very telling of the dreams of people in the late middle ages and in the few centuries following. Many of the 'days' have birds---symbols of plenitude and exotic eating---at a time when any food was scarce, and people died through the winter. The "5 golden rings" is the golden ringed pheasant, not the jewelry; and if you look at the later 'days', you'll see dancers and musicians and other symbols of gaiety and celebration against the backdrop of deadly cold and dark. It really is a dream of life against a cold dark background. But I digress, back to your image...) (Btw, if I ever repeat myself, mea culpa! I don't always remember what I've shared among my cupboard of weird stories and crazy facts, so bear with me if I repeat myself...) The egret, majestic in stance, almost stands on a fallen tree---he's doesn't, but it looks that way in your crop, and it's just fascinating. He seems way up. And wonderful to see his long legs and how he balances on just that little branch. He stands out against that dark background too. Fine seeing and capturing from you. It's a majestic pose, standing on a kind of carpet of branches and leaves. Well I made it all the way to your most recent shot, as of this writing, and it's always great when I do. Wonderful work, Claude, you bring SO much to what you see, and you bring so much OUT of what you see. It's a journey through the world inside the world, when one comes here...I'll be back for more soon...
You did well on this shot, what a handsome bird perched up there in his safety zone! I never see these here, but I would expect they're around. Maybe I'm just missing them.
Marvelous capture!
Great capture of the egret, seemingly sulking in its solitude and wishing to be invisible from any ardent photographers.
Impressive image!
He is well built and healthy - a nice contrast up in the trees!
