Description
One of the principal tasks of a blacksmith is replacing worn shoes on horses and oxen. With a horse you lift one leg and nail the new shoe to the horses hoof. Oxen are not very bright and if you lift one of its legs it is likely to fall over. What to do?
The structure in the image is used to shoe oxen. Place the ox in the frame with its head through the opening on the left side. Tighten the leather straps to secure the ox and go to work.

my first thought was to note that there are two heavy-duty slings that would be used to support a cow or horse. And on that note, it was probably used to control either a cow/bull or horse while checking the health and condition of said stated animals Great capture
What a clever contraption!
A great contraption and something that I have not seen before but makes perfect sense.
Excelent...Marvelous capture my friend !!!
It's very like the boat slings they use to get small yachts in and out of the water at the Edmonds dock. :)
It looks like a nice idea for torture... ehm... :-) Well, our ancestors have made curious things...
Like a block and tackle to lift an engine.... OK.
