Description

This image depicts one of the most spectacular elements of a bird of prey's courtship and a display of ultimate trust. A pair locks talons and tumbles from dizzying heights towards the ground, then releasing talons just before impact and flying back to safety. The hawks portrayed in this image are Black Kites, which are part of my second Birds of Prey project, "Hawks of the Old World" (the first was "Kestrels, Hobby and Falcons"). Black kites are found in Eurasia, Africa and Australia. A Black Kite is an extremely versatile feeder...it takes carrion as well as live birds, mammals, fish, lizards, amphibians and invertebrates. It is even known to forage on vegetable matter such as palm oil fruits and human refuse has become a plentiful food source in many areas. Rendered in Poser 2014 without any postwork.
