Description
Machu Picchu is a 15th century Inca site located 2,430 m (7,970-ft) above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley through which the Urubamba River flows. The Urubamba River is in the Amazon River watershed.
Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438-1472). Machu Picchu is located 80 km (50 mi) northwest of Cusco, the Inca capital. Machu Picchu was never discovered by the Spaniards.

What a witty and rib tickling sense of humour you have, auntietk, when you write, just after my comment on Sig's superb capture of the Machu Picchu: '' I love the people who say "you're so lucky" to have been there. Luck has nothing to do with it ... you made reservations! :P ... So I guess you ...."love".... me and my photography ?! and I am so pleased about it ! Well, just joking ! You see, for the price (or "reservation", as you call it ) of a flight ticket and accomodation to the Machu Picchu from Europe, I can afford to spend ...both two weeks in Turkey and two in India. Everybody makes his own choices, and rather than go to Peru this year, I decided on Turkey and India ! ...yet, I insist on saying that Sig was lucky to see the Machu Picchu in his own eyes :-)

A spectacular photo from the top. There are only a few things left on my bucket list and this is on top. Did you hike up or take the train. An outstanding zoom and they keep it in pristine condition!
