Description
This poor baby duck was at the Fenton Freedom Festival Mill Pond and had the misfortune to be picked up by a little girl. I was afraid Mama Duck would abandon the baby because she now smells liked a human. I hope that did not happen. Photo is overexposed, probably because I was using the cheap Nikon with a flash on it. No time for a render today. Actually, I was working on one all day but it did not turn out. Went to the doctor today about my broken elbow, and he said I can't ride for at least four more weeks. I was really unhappy about that. Nothing I can do about it, though.

A wonderful shot of this little fuzzy duckling, Sherrie. I've read that there's not any truth to that story about mama ducks (or any birds) rejecting their chicks after being handled by humans.

Don't believe what you wrote about the duck it isn't true and also for birds too. The mother will take her back if she found it so quit worring and take care of yourself so you can get on that horse again. Oh!, great photo, the little ducky is cute. Stan

most of the time the mother goes after anyone getting nea her babies. unsure if mommy will neglect or not. great shot though. do a web search on the question if a mom will do that. hope you can ride again sooner..

Cute! I've always thought that, too, that handling a bird will make the parents reject it. But I read something the other day that declared that a myth. So, I'm not sure at this point, but, hopefully, it is a myth and this little baby duck will be reunited with it's mother without incident. Sorry to hear about your elbow. I hope you mend very quickly!

Be patient Sherrie! It is vital you give your arm a chance to heal. I am sure your horse will just be glad to see you around. You can rest a while longer which will benefit you in the longer term. Steve ;)

They are so cute and fuzzy at that stage it is hard to resist. Sorry about the riding restriction, but elbows are too important a part to mess with. If they don't ben properly or are weak because they didn't heal correctly, it would severely curtail LOTS of activities. Waiting sucks but is necessary. Patience may be a virtue but it sure puts a strain on the nerves!
