Description
This poor baby duck was at the Fenton Freedom Festival Mill Pond and had the misfortune to be picked up by a little girl. I was afraid Mama Duck would abandon the baby because she now smells liked a human. I hope that did not happen. Photo is overexposed, probably because I was using the cheap Nikon with a flash on it. No time for a render today. Actually, I was working on one all day but it did not turn out. Went to the doctor today about my broken elbow, and he said I can't ride for at least four more weeks. I was really unhappy about that. Nothing I can do about it, though.

Cute little duck, outstanding capture!
The mother takes it certainly return again. When I was a child, we had ducklings in the hand also. Then they swam back to their mother. This is not a problem. All my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

A friend of mine had a clutch of duck eggs - I spent a week turning them in the incubator while he was away. And they all looked like this when they hatched and treated him like mother duck. He dug them a special pond. Lovely creatures.
Oh, how adorable! I know you're not supposed to pick them up, but I can understand a child not being able to resist. I would find it hard. I'm sure his Mom will take him back. Hope you heal soon.

Nope. That is an old mistaken assumption Sherrie. Birds (generally speaking - there are exceptions) have a poor sense of smell. They do not abandon their babies because they smell humans on them. As long as momma duck was in sight or hearing distance, I'm sure they were reunited. Personally, I think this picture looks pretty good. That "cheap" Nikon takes nice pictures. VERY CUTE!
