Looks like the folks at JPL are definitely having a "WTF" day..... :-P
I've had this silly image festering away in my head for some time - finally got around to getting it out and into pixels..
For those of you who are too young, or outside the USA, the Burma-Shave signs were a staple of highway travel in the US - primarily in the western half of the country. It was a brilliant bit of fun advertising by Burma Vita Co. who made - obviously - shaving cream.
Found this appropriate jingle on Wikipedia:
"Free — free / a trip to Mars / for 900 / empty jars / Burma-Shave"

What a clever marketing ploy, to get people to come up with their own advertising slogans for the product! Burma Shave had a brilliant campaign, and I still miss it! There was a restaurant in Seattle (in the old Underground) that served soup and bread for lunch, and as you came back up the stairs to street level, there were Burma Shave signs on every third step or so. All part of the atmosphere. This is terrific!
I do not doubt it one bit. give marketing an inch and they will put advertizing on Mars

LOL! Being in the east, I don't remember ever seeing these personally but I seem to recall seeing them on TV. Cute idea Rod. That's YOUR type of humor for sure. :-)
I remember the first time I saw Burma Shave signs...I was 10 years old riding in the back seat of my Dad's '41 Ford from New York to Ohio. Love these old signs of the '50s Why is it When you Try to pass The guy in front Goes twice as fast? Burma-Shave

Burma Shave signs was put up on Mars by that mar man that going to conquer the world but bug bunny stops him.
