Isolated or a 1/2 mile from downtown Chicago? You do magic things compositionally with "your lake". Big wintertime/summertime sky, cold/warm lake, fascinating foreground and optional moon/sun. A Mark formula for success:-) Ok, I know artists don't need/heed/use formulas. But it does work for you quite often in your hometown environs. Well done sir.

More testimony to the wrath of winter in this photo of the ravaged fence, as it barely survives atop what I suspect is the shore of Lake Michigan, or could that be water? A tableau of frigid desolation in this zip-up-your-parka capture. Now, all we have to wait for is Chipka's comment.

The fence here is the same kind I see at one of my favorite places in Huntington Beach. I don't think I'll ever see snow there, though and that makes this foto really special!!

A grand shot. That poor fence doesn't stand a chance against that lake, in any season. Also interesting perspective with those naked branches looking down on the scene.

So evocative! The sand fence makes me think of summer on the Atlantic coast (even though I've never been there). It also makes me think of snow fences in Wyoming (which I've seen in person many times), even though they run the other way. What a wonderful conglomeration of ideas all in one place! I like the colors, the softness of the sky, and the rusty tones of the fence. The tree and the concrete are nice anchors, and the white-line horizon (ice, I presume) gives it flight. Beautiful!

This is beautiful! It not only is aesthetically lovely, but it sets my mind to thinking of how things connect and the tenacity of life. The fence has been buffeted, yet snakes almost lifelike across the image. The snow is not a pristine white. It does not blanket the world, but is mixed with the sand of summer. Life bleeds into its sterile winter. The skeletal tree has the promise of spring. The landscape is gorgeous in its coat of winter and is also a promise of life renewed. And the fence is just marvelous. It has felt the passing seasons and has a beauty a new, untried fence could never hope to achieve. Very beautiful image!

Mark, this is another sensational photo and probably my favorite in the frozen series. This capture has many contrasts and offers an abundance of photographic detail. What sets this one apart for me is the old, battered fence that stands almost defiantly in the foreground.

Firstly, I thought you added too much skies but, secondly, on seeing the branches on the right I thought it was just right, and, thirdly, I decided that beaches do really good better when not crowded... very lovely, Mark!
