Right after Reed pays the taxi, they hear Jessie's voice beckoning them to come into the backyard. He is working on a painting, a hobby he enjoys that enables him to relax from the stress of his hectic photographer's job. Skylar and Reed greet Jessie, who continues painting as they step behind him to admire his masterpiece. Reed doesn't say anything. He isn't much of an art lover. He thinks the painting looks nice but remains mostly noncommittal. Skylar on the other hand takes a more immediate interest in Jessie's work. He can see real talent in Jessie's strokes. He admires the subtlety of Jessie's style and offers only a minor suggestion just to gauge Jessie's reaction. Jessie is pleased that Skylar is interested enough to make a suggestion and promptly incorporates it into his painting. Their bond of friendship is strengthened. As Jessie continues painting, they discuss various subject, not the least of which is the continued fires. Jessie hopes they can get out of the area before there are any highway closures. He has heard of a few places that have been so affected. Soon, Jessie puts down his brush and asks the guys if they have eaten yet. They haven't, which pleases him. He has a fine lunch in the oven and has been hoping he could share it with them.
