Description
I saw this fruit growing on a tree outside an apartment building in Santa Barbara. There were great clumps of them, dozens per clump, & they were roughly the size of apples. They look somewhat like persimmons to me, but every persimmon I've ever seen has a uniformly colored shiny skin & these were mottled & not at all shiny. Maybe this is an immature persimmon or some related species? Anyone know?
Anyway, I found them visually appealing, so I thought I'd share. More detail in zoom...

I have no idea, but what a great shot! Love that texture! Maybe they are persimmons, and this is what they look like outside? I couldn't say. Lucky find and great photo!
Hmm, when I was a child I remember an aunt of mine who had a persimmon tree. I do not remember them growing in clumps like this. Of course with this close POV it is difficult to say . They did grow in groupings, but I remember them hanging a bit more loose from each other. Perhaps it is a different variety than I had experience with as a child. In any case it does make an interesting photo. :)
I've no idea, but whatever they are, they make for a wonderful photograph!
I like the photo but no clue - at first I thought maybe a form of fig but........
