Description
Aransas National Wildlife Refuge
North of Corpus Christi, Texas
We went to Aransas in hopes of spotting whooping cranes. Although we saw a lot of birds, and I have a lot of sort of fuzzy pictures of birds from a very long ways away, we didn't see any whoopers.
I've decided I pretty much suck at wildlife photography. However, I did catch these birders lurking in the bushes. :)
We met them later, and they were very nice people from Topeka.

Meh, can't be good at everything, I built my first camera at ten, darkroom too, with help, done it my whole life and I'm not so good at it.

I saw whooping cranes near Wilburton, OK., last weekend.
I find the best way to capture pictures of wild animals is to feed them. Not long ago I watched a fisherman gutting his catch and feeding the parts he didn't want to a pelican patiently waiting a short distance away. I got some really nice pics of the little guy. I found it works with people too.

Intrestering capture. Note that unlike most wildlife, The female has the bright coloring. ( ok, I am up at midnight when I should be sleeping) See what I mean about getting to know wildlife ? They are nice when you give them a chance : )
That jacket is a bit bright to go bird watching but I like your shot.

LOVE the subtle jacket, ideal for concealment, Huh! A bit like taking a lively collie with you to watch wildlife. Try insects, Tara...I cant do distant moving objects but close invertebrates are so much easier. I havent tried it myself, but I know Bruce(Nightgallery) pops lively ones in the fridge for a bit to calm then down.

Great candid of the major-spotted birdwatchers; they can be common in some areas! These have subdued plumage, it must not be breeding season ;p LOL!

I'm not much good at wildlife, either - I just don't have the patience to plant myself in one spot, and wait for critters to show up. I think that's what it takes; that and a bit of luck... You did get a great shot of these folks though, Tara. It was SOOO good seeing you and Bill tonight - what a wonderful time! And hey - you did get to photograph something that flies! LOL! Safe journey, you two!
