Description
We've been at our turnaround point (Pensacola, Florida) in this eight month long trip for the last three days. Today we turn from heading east to heading northwest for an eventual arrival back in Washington State by about the first of June.
The photo above is of Pensacola Light. It was first lit on January 1, 1859 and still serves as an aid to navigation today. The focal plane of the light is 191 feet above sea level (the highest in Florida).
The weather here has been warm with blue skies. But today the humidity is high...time to go:-)

Superb capture Bill. God bless.
Wonderful image! I'm not sorry I didn't go with you yesterday, but it would have been nice to see this lighthouse. Oh well. It's a terrific photograph! I particularly like the way the cloud passes behind the light, up near the window. It gives the sense that the lighthouse window is somehow involved with the shape of the cloud. VERY cool! :)
Typical Florida humidity. Awesome POV, clarity, color and contrast in this image of the charcoal and white lighthouse and its environs, Bill. Besides having been the first North American European settlement, Pensacola is a sea port on Pensacola Bay, which connects to the Gulf of Mexico. A large United States Naval Air Station, the first in the United States, is located southwest of Pensacola (near the community of Warrington) and is home to the Blue Angels flight demonstration team and the National Naval Aviation Museum. The main campus of the University of West Florida is situated north of the city center. Source: Wikipedia encyclopedia.
Terrific Bill. I wonder why it isn't white all the way up? I'm sure there is a good reason!
A gorgeous shot of this lighthouse; not an easy one when they're so darn tall!! Safe travels on your way home.
I also noticed what Tara mentioned. Cool shot!
Excellent capture and a wonderful blue sky and i am so glad i dont have to go up in that light tower. :-)
Love what the 35mm did here, there is a temptation to correct these converging verticals. But here they serve to give your shot much more "Impact" illustrating the light house as a lot more taller than it actually is. Ataboy Bill!
Yucky! Humidity is nasty! Although come to think of it, I don't know which is worse... humidity or the extreme cold Toronto can't seem to rid itself of even with a few teases here and there of spring time! :) What a delightful piece of historic sight! Really interesting to know when the first time it was lit was... terrific capture and fabulous sky!
cool
What a fascinating capture! The angles are so expressive---the high angle on the tower, the tilt of the ground, the tilt-in of the house behind the tower: It's all so played-off of each other. Just fascinating. And the tower's loneliness is offset by the crowded coagulation of buildings on the ground. And it looks almost like you have some people up in the tower---or maybe those are objects, I can't tell: But they make a great contrast up there. A real mix of angles, movement, and massing. Very compelling. And the window near the top of the tower looks like it's spewing out some of those clouds. Fascinating lineup of visual events!
A super capture with that beautiful sky behind the lighthouse!
