Description

Walking among the ancient live oaks and magnolias of Houmas House in Louisiana on the banks of the Mississippi River. We got out of our car, paid our price of admission, walked through a gate and BOOM...we were in this world. Now I like trees but these were beyond magnificent...if you know what I mean:) Please ZOOM for full effect.

You've definitely captured how it felt to be there. What a magical place! Those trees really are another world, as if they have their own speed, their own heartbeat. Gorgeous!

This is just amazing, Bill - it truly does have the look of another place and time. I'll bet it looks incredible at night with those lamps on.

Oh yes, a deep canopied shot of a walkway, with those southern lace-scarved trees, just protecting and guiding you as you walk. You've captured light dappling it everywhere, and the light at the back of the shot opens it up for us, to open grasses, sky and whatever else is back there. Inviting and protective. And yes, I can totally see why, when you walk into this place, you feel like you've been transported to another world: Isn't it amazing what trees can do, how they turn a place into a totally secluded paradise? Even if they're right off a major road? I love the big arch of that big tree, too, and the shadows beneath it. A loving capture of a beautiful sight, and you know how to use that camera, Bill. Beautiful.

Oh, wow, that has Louisiana written all over it. I should know having done basic training in that State. That said, stellar atmosphere of subtle contrast and lighting in this one, Bill. I like the statue at the lower left.

Oh yes, I do know what you mean; and I would LOVE to see this in the evening, with the lights on and fireflies blinking in the shadows of the trees--that's when it's meant to be seen! Brilliantly lovely!

Heaven? Beautiful photo! I remember being in a park like this when I was 4 years old. Could never figure out where it was. Someone once suggested Longwood Gardens (Pennsylvania). It was just SO beautiful. Nice to see a place similar to it! Keep up the beautiful work! :-)

I know exactly what you mean. It doesn't take much of an imagination to picture the old Deep South looking at your pictures. Thanks for these magnificent shots Bill. I have seen more of the old Deep South cruising your site than I have seen driving through this area on several occassions
