Description
Jackson Square is in the heart of the French Quarter or Vieux Carre (Old Square) in New Orleans, Louisiana, surrounded by the Mississippi River, St. Louis Cathedral, the Cabildo and Presbytere, and the Pontalba Apartments.
Jackson Square was called the Place d'Armes by the French and Plaza de Armas by the Spanish. This was the area where the militia drilled and the citizens met. It also was the place where public hangings, and beheadings were carried out.
The Place d'Armes, site in 1803 of the Louisiana Purchase ceremony, was renamed Jackson Square in the 1850's in honor of Andrew Jackson, the hero of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812 and later seventh President of the United States.

Superb capture Bill. God bless.
Brilliant photo of a major man. Applause for talent and technique from doarte
fabulous image
Very nice positioning Bill!
He almost looks alive - and very powerful in this angle - a great shot, Bill!
What a dynamic capture of this sculpture, Bill; I love the POV. Something about his expression reminds me of Baron Munchhausen in the film, if you've seen it... I'm sure Tara has!
Wonderful POV of this statue cool information
I know this is a statue, but your POV and postwork give it life; this is just great!!
Brilliantly composed and SO dramatic!
Wonderful shot...I must ditto the other comments here. :)
Cool capture and tribute to a true American hero... Now I have the song "Battle of New Orleans" by Jim Horton playing in my head...
Superb capture, very powerful!! x
Stellar POV, sepia, contrast lighting effects and vignetting in this pic of ole Andy Jackson, holding the torch of freedom high atop his trusty steed, Bill. But Baron Munchhausen?
While I'm not a fan of all municipal statues, you turned this one into a soaring monument, it's fun and also explosive. Your light is wonderful, and you shade it along the edges, to highlight Andrew and his horse (sounds like the name of a children's tale), and the up-looking horse and human make the whole thing soar. The hat waving high in the air doesn't hurt either. If you were going to make a monument soar and come out of its staid past and become 'fresh' again, you did it here. Fine light on the horse's front---we can see the decay and detail---and a very dramatic composition. You did this old statue proud, sirrah!!!!
Lovely done image and interesting history.
Jackson square was build by a woman. She was tough too.
Very impressive details mate, good to say you've captured and cropped this perfectly.. Very well done indeed! Rob
Great detail in the photo and interesting background info Bill!
