Near the corner of Chartres & St. Philip
French Quarter
New Orleans, Louisiana
I liked the feeling of intimacy and privacy this balcony had, even in the midst of the French Quarter. It's an illusion, of course ... the buildings are packed in there like sardines, and this lovely corner apartment has neighbors only inches away, but nevertheless, it's a nice vibe.
The beads in the tree are left over from Mardi Gras, just over a week past.

And they say the camera never lies... It's all just a matter of choosing the point of view - and of course you're a genius at picking out the interesting detail in a crowded scene.

There something so intriguingly intimate about everything in the French Quarter; I loved the atmosphere when I was there some years back. Of course I was much younger too...This is such a wonderful shot, there's a story here for sure!

Nice composition and mood
One of the glories of architecture is how it makes infinite space of tiny spaces...and this is a perfect example. A beautiful quiet window, surrounded by trees and leaves, and packed-in by unseen (in this image) places all around it. It's dark and secluded, but facing a very broad day, I bet. Sensitive as you are to architecture, you included the small line of arches above the window (I forgot the name---you'll have to mail it to me as all my architectural terms went out the window, the last few years, along with a lot of other things I won't mention): Fine inclusion. And I love the beads: Whether from Mardi Gras or anything else, they somehow capture an essence of NOrleans. Quiet and intimate, and a sweet capture of one of the essences of that amazing place...

This is a delightful capture, Tara! It does have a very tranquil feel, like the calm after the big party. I think those beads make this photo - they complete the story the photo tells.
