It's pretty common around here to find madrone trees like this one - multiple, tentacle-like trunks growing out of a massive base...

Beethoven wrote a sonata in his late years, the "Hammerklavier". If you know it, bear with what will be an obvious explanation; if you don't, take it as a compliment. The Hammerklavier is a big sprawling obtuse and, in the final movement, confounding madcap that dazzles and fatigues at the same time; and which musicians eventually fall madly in love with, but only after tolerating its snaky journey. The bottom of this tree, and your capture, has that feeling---grand, sweeping, knotted, uncomfortable, and with an air of "I ain't budgin' for no one". You caught it...meaning, well, you caught it. You got its essence. I would find this a difficult subject to capture, because it's obtuse and takes over the shot rather than "occupies" it. Clunky old thing. But it seems a natural for your eye. One, your pov shows it sloping down, which balances the big "crown" of its trunks flying upwards. (You know what? It looks like a fright-wig, lol! Those crazy old wigs comics used to wear to look like they're in a perennial state of shock--Harpo Marx being a great example. It's like the tree's saying, "holy s--t!!!") And your lights, the many small highlights in the trunk, give it an electricity that lightens its mass. They make it float somehow...And you left space on the right, which balances the mass on the left. Just a really good job with a difficult subject. It's the kind of subject I'd want to move, turn, get it to wear a different shirt, whatever, to get it "camera friendly". Another fine piece you; you tackled a beast and came up with a fine picture.
A fantastic capture and an amazing happening! There seems to be no bark on one side of many of the branches!
