Description
Another frequent visitor to our bird feeder. I believe this is a type of sparrow (possibly a female house sparrow), but though I'm sure they're very common, I really haven't found a close visual match for it. I've posted a previous photo of this kind of bird many months ago & asked for help identifying it, but nobody had a definitive answer - maybe this time a birder will step forward?
Like the previous two photos I posted, this was shot from inside my house, through a glass door that goes out to my deck. Done with birds for at least a while & will post something completely different tomorrow. Thanks for your kind comments & don't forget to zoom...

This looks like what we call in the UK a 'Dunnock' or Hedge Sparrow for its common name. Nice shot.
In Holland we call them hous sparrow some years ago the population was completely decimed, nowadays there are zillionsof themnice shot and she looks well feed

My take on it is that it's a junco; I have a bunch of house sparrows living in my garden, and they have more markings and spots than this. But the dark hood and light bill, along with the more solid colours, looks very much like the juncos I see. We have Oregon juncos, which are lighter, but there are several species of juncos and their colouration can vary a lot. Try searching for images of juncos, you'll find several that look like this. It's a cracking shot, too!
Thank you, Denise - I think you nailed it. After looking it up, I believe it's a Dark-eyed Junco, which is a species in the Sparrow family, which has several sub-species. And apparently there is some debate about whether the Oregon Junco is one of these sub-species or a separate species. Not being an ornithologist, I won't be losing any sleep over this raging controversy...

Great shot Claude. I did a whole batch of bird shots through my kitchen window in 2009. The birds didn't know I was there...perfect. Your new camera is also yielding first class results for you.
Typical pattern for a Junco, though this coloration is not seen in the race that is here in Alberta.
Definately a Junco, I am not sure of the exact kind though. Beautiful shot!
