Description
A zoom will really help on this one.
Yes, there is a city out there...Tucson, Arizona to be exact. Tucson is set in a Sonoran Desert valley surrounded by five mountain ranges.
Tucson has a population of about 520,000. The city spreads/sprawls out for miles across the Tucson Valley.
This pano was assembled from five photos taken from a viewpoint about 1000 feet above the valley floor on the Catalina Highway-Sky Island National Scenic Byway that leads up to the 9,157 foot summit of Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

A really must zoom and a brilliant pano Bill.
Very beautiful view
So very impressive, but desolate!
Awesome panoramic! :-)
What a magnificent, sweeping view, Bill! You did a great job stitching this together, bud! It's so hard to convey a view like this in a photo - or even a series of photos - but you did a masterful job here!
A most beautiful panoramic view!
Tuscon never looked so wonderful! And, a ZOOM is necessary if you want to see this panorama in all of its desert glory.
breath-taking!!
WOW! It is all so HUGE :-) I am not used to such large places :-) Beautiful shot indeed.
Lovely!
Wow, that is quite a BIG vista...amazing photography, Bill!
this is real good work. love the sky colors
Amazing pano my friend. God bless.
It is a great vista Bill, but in zoom it seems to be lacking your normal level of detail, perhaps caused by the compression method?
I agree. The level of detail is a bit underwhelming. The time was early afternoon and I was shooting pretty much into the sun (never a great idea):) However, the immensity of the scene kind of swept me up and made me want to share it with you all.
Awesome job on the pano. Thanks for sharing. :)
What an amazing view!!
Wow, impressive panorama :)
It's at times like this when I wish my screen was ultra wide to capture all the glory of the zoom, Brilliant shot Bill
Excellent pano bud. I have the big country theme going through my head now and images of the gorgeous Barbara Stanwick :)
Oh yes........ The great wide open. Love this panorama in full size view.
This is absolutely spectacular Bill! WOW - what a vast expanse!
Great job, hon! The conditions were abysmal, and you did a great job saving the scene. Nice!
What a Panorama Bill, excellently taken and put together.. Well done indeed! Rob
just like the movies. I love a good western
An excellent pano image Bill and a must zoom to view this vast area!
Yes, ala Wayne, the landscape isn't filled with a lot of high and low points, but it is what it is, and you captured the sweep (as you say) and the feel of broad almost desolate atmosphere of these vistas very honestly. (If you go past chicago and into the countryside, you get broad detail-less vistas as well, and they have their own beauty.) (And btw---off-topic---whaleman's gallery is gone! I wonder what happened. I assume he's ok, because he's still showed up for comments here and there...) The hue here is a muddy green/brown, and one really does get the feel for the low sweep of this landscape---even with mountains in the background. And the sky goes from light to dark, too---perhaps a function of a pano, which covers so much area. But it does add to the drama. A low-feeling, burnt green landscape, and you put the pieces together seamlessly from all I can see. Not an easy subject---for that very bleak fact---but expressive all the same, and I like it a lot. (Btw, I just did a pano. I swore I'd never comment on one, but I did. I tried to make a pano once, but the parts argued, fought, one committed suicide, and another ran off with a shot by Diane Arbus. So it was a disaster. I know there are 'ways' to do them, but the few times I tried, I almost threw the camera out the window ((while it laughed its _ss off watching me struggle))...)
