Gold King Mine and Ghost Town, Jerome, Arizona
This place is filled with old trucks, bits and pieces of now-defunct machinery, old buildings, and various odd and assorted pieces of the past.
This was inside the shoe repair shop.

I used to live just down the hill from Jerome in a town called Cottonwood. In my day Cottonwood was not much more than a one street town (it is called the old town now) Last time I visited the area (about 11 years ago) Cottonwood had grown to a big town with a mall and a Walmart (or maybe it was K-mart...some big store of that type anyway) no less. Jerome, however seemed the same ...just a sleepy old ghost town that stays alive by tourism. It is a fun place with a lot of history and copper. I had lots of copper and peacock silver in my rock collection when I lived there as a child. This photo really captures the dreamy olden days spirit of that town. I love the soft focus you created here. Thanks for sharing and letting me yammer on about old memories. :)

It's amazing that so much was just abandoned and really sad, your photograph is very evocative, I love the lighting and the soft colours but most of all the feelings I get when you look and feel what it must have been like to leave a home

OH Yes, this leeds me back to my childhood, when my mom sent me to the "shoemaker", as we called him. There was a special smell in there of leather and shoe polish. A beautiful shot, Tara. I like the soft look :-)

You did good Hon. I took this same shot, more or less, then couldn't figure what to do with it:) You have conveyed a feeling here and brought memories of boyhood shoe repair shops to my mind. I remember shoe repair shops as busy places. whirring machines and aromatic smells...not at all unpleasant. Most of these shops are gone today but I did find one in Leavenworth, KS about 10 years ago...run by Vietnamese...very industrious too. My question...who takes shoes to be repaired anymore? Oh, BTW, great photo:)
