Description
1926 was the first year that Pontiac Automobiles were built. The car was named after American Indian Chief Pontiac.
Found this classy hood ornament on a 1926 Pontiac in the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada.
Note: Chief Pontiac was a chief of the Ottawa tribe who became famous for his role in Pontiac's Rebellion (17631766), an American Indian struggle against the British military occupation of the Great Lakes region following the British victory in the French and Indian War.

A splendid object and a beautifully lit pic.
That's a classic!
What a beautiful mascot and a great pic Bill.
aha, thank you for background info, what a beautiful hood ornament and photo!
Nice shot - great details.
Nice photo Bill. This is now a collector's item.
I never dreamed I would see this hood ornament again in my life-time! From what I've heard each was hand crafted/finished. And thanks for the historical note about Chief Pontiac. I wonder how many Americans today know about Chief Pontiac or where the car's name came from? I certainly remember, but that's my/our generation, Bill. Beautiful cars. Very nice photo showing the coloring of the metal. You even got those piercing eyes! Keep up the good work! :-)
ISO 12800.... mindboggling. Great image Bill!
Cool historical note and fantastic shot my friend!!!!!Bravissimo!!:DDD.Hugsxx Whylma
Love this ornament, pity cars cannot have them anymore due to light fingered people!!!
Superb capture Bill. God bless.
Thanks mate. I never knew where the name Pontiac came from.
Excellent photo.
beautiful ornament
Very cool capture and great history lesson
What a lovely shot of this iconic sculpture. Bet there aren't many of these left around! Well done!
So fancy and shiny! Great picture. Aren't you glad you got that camera? :)
My grandmother drove an old Pontiac and I loved the hood ornament. This one is spectacular!!
Great shot Bill! My reading of Pontiac's history was that he was neither an American Indian Chief or a Canadian Indian Chief. He should be, in my opinion, referred to as a Native Indian Chief, and when he did settle it was with the British. Regardless, he was doomed to perish ignominiously then later rise like a Phoenix from the ashes into an American hood ornament. That's way better than I will do, LOL!
Very cool hood ornament & very well-captured, Bill. I probably would have cropped out the uninteresting left side to center the image on Chief Pontiac, but maybe that's just me...
Beautifully taken lovely and crisp and detailed
WOW! That s an awesome ornament. Really beautiful.
Really cool shot of this ornament, Bill! That's a bit smaller then the last Native American Chief sculpture I saw - the one carved into the side of a mountain...:-D
Claude Claude Claude Crop? This is the perfect Thirds. Compo is all important here and you nailed it Bill. When i did my series of native paintings, I never got a shot of Pontiac. Every chief but him :(
fabulous picture
Great find, great capture, and interesting background info Bill!
Really very beautiful Bill, from a time when they cared! Lovely shot mate! Rob
