Description
Driving south on 395 through California today, we came upon a huge solar array. We couldn't identify it at first, but as we got closer what we were seeing started to make sense. I stuck my camera out the side window and took a bunch of pictures as we went by.
Imagine my surprise when I got home and looked at my shots from today and found this!
The bright white line you see between the ground and the mountains in the background is the array. We got close enough to see it's a trough-style array, although you can't tell that from this distance. If you look at a Google map on satellite, you can see it at the northwest corner of the junction of 395 and 58 in California at these coordinates: 35.015728,-117.55678

We arrived at Edwards AFB in the Mojave today, where we'll stay for four days. Laundry, grocery shopping, resting and relaxing are on the agenda, and we're hoping to get caught up on the blog! When we move every few days and have lots of sights to see, we start to need a break, and we've been looking forward to this stop for several days. I'm hoping to give my camera a good, long rest! When we leave here we'll be visiting family in Southern California for a week, so the next ten to fourteen days will be an opportunity to post a few pictures that have been sitting around in my files for a while. :)

I know right where this is and it is quite a sight. Funny, but what caught my eye is that white wall tire at the left.
Or it could be a web made by a metal spider trying to catch some drones. Nice catch.

Serendipity of the finest sort! Brilliant. There is much uneducated objection to a proposed offshore wind farm between the Isle of Wight and Swanage. I am all for it and went to a presentation at a local hotel to find out about my only concern, the effect on birds. Only 8 folk turned up out of our town population of 186k! And 7 of those were all for it like me.
Geometry class was immediately after lunch. I attempted to stay awake by eating mass quantities of sugar at lunch, it didn't work. Needless to say. I didn't pass geometry class, and regardless of that horrible fact, I have never once in my entire life needed to know how tall a flag pole is. Go figure. Cool Capture.
I like it Tara and very well captured. If you hadn't told us you were driving by I would have thought that you had stood that old tire up!!

Some folks have all the luck! LOL! This is just waaaay too cool, Tara! The symmetry with the guy wires between the poles is almost perfect! And the white doughnut thing is perfectly placed. It almost has a layered effect with the shiny array separating the ground from the sky. And of course there are insulators...... :-D Sounds like you're out there in Angel's (Savage Dragon) neck of the woods. Keep an eye on the sky... If you're close to Edwards no telling what you'll see flying around..

First I only saw the power poles and later discovered the solar system. But my focus is really your power lines. For me as europeans like a relic from an earlier time. You have had a lovely time. Thank you for letting us be part of it. Greets from Berlin Juli

This is really cool! So many elements work well here. The lines are fantastic. I like the way the sky goes browner in the lower half of the image tying it in with the land. I like the bare patch of earth in the center and the tire. The tire is like a signpost for this great scene for those who know how to read it. I can imagine them saying, "We'll meet at the white tire of the great crossed wires on the next full moon." Okay, I've no idea why they are meeting. You never can tell with people who meet at the white tire of the great crossed wires. They are a peculiar lot. And what a helpful sign on one of the poles, just in case you've forgotten where you are. I found it on Google maps. There were close up pictures of the array which were interesting. Great capture! I like it a lot.
