Description
The Steamboat Arabia sank after hitting a snag in the Missouri River in 1856. It was loaded with more than 200 tons of supplies headed for the frontier. In 1988 a team composed of members of two families detected the wreck 45 feet below a cornfield where the river used to flow 132 years ago.
This display shows a tiny sample of common household hardware of the day...door knobs, coat hooks, padlocks...what else do you see?
Left this big for your examination. The Steamboat Arabia Museum is in Kansas City, Missouri. You'll be amazed at what you see there...I was:)

Interesting display... Aloha
Oh, my! Hardware store from 1850s? The thumbnail made me think of a store with chocolates! What a surprise this was! Glad to see you posting again. What I find most interesting is the location of the find and the shift in the river's course. It makes me wonder, considering such a short time period, what else can be found underground in the Mississippi-Missouri basins? More surprises on the way? Keep up the good work! :-)
OOOOOO MMMMMMMM GGGGGGG!!!! I want those doorknobs!!!! This is just absolutely amazing! Look at all the goodies - and so well preserved! What's really crazy...... This is a 20 minute drive from my house, and I have yet to see it. Gotta fix that.... What a great photo, Bill!
A first class, fascinating image Bill.

I. Want. It. All!!!!!! Very good capture
A great shot Bill and I see everything that you would need - if you were starting from scratch in the old west!

It's like being at that big store with the orange aprons. Wowser, huh? Great shot.
I find the lock most interesting, but I wonder why they would want to display so many alike items.
Amazing, would love a look inside!!

45 feet below a cornfield? Wow!!! That is just unbelievable. A marvelous shot of the booty!
That certainly is an impressive display Bill, very well laid out and excellently restored I see.. Thats for showing this to us... Makes you wonder what else lies under the cold waves of the seven seas... Rob

I must be in heaven - just love the order of all those treasures ... is this, what they call having OCD perhaps ? with a twist ? ;P wonderful viewing, I could stare at this for hours, thanks for sharing Bill BTW - happy tripping ! BB
A ship found under a cornfield? I thought they only found stuff like that in Europe!
