Description

This photo is along the upper trail in the Mariposa Grove which is far from the massive Rim fire that is burning in California but other parts of Yosemite including two smaller groves of sequoias are being threatened. The thick spongy bark of the sequoia trees will provide some protection against fire but my I'm hoping for favorable weather and the safety of the firefighters as they work towards containment. I hope they save these trees too but from what I hear it it a tree top fire and that kills them. Love to go see them again!

These guys have been around since the age of dinosaurs. I hope they make it through this century, though sometimes I have my doubts. I mean what's a 60 million year old lineage compared to some several 100,000 dollar profit?
