Description
When the material that composes this rock was deposited, this area was a muddy, swampy wetland. Layer after layer of mud and sediment compacted under the weight of what came later. Millions of years, the changing face of the planet, and that mud turned to rock, which is now being exposed as erosion reveals all. If you look closely, you can see the ripples in what was then mud.
It's Moenkopi, flaking and peeling and slabbing off.
Fascinating stuff! (Unless it isn't, but that's totally up to you.)
