Description
This will be the last entry for the Sumela Monastery series. I want to thank those of you who stayed with the series and to those who caught even some of them.
This is a deep shot of Sumela, hoping to give you some idea of the depth and scale of this cliff hugging structure and a sense of the vibrant colors that its creators and nature have imparted. Here we look into the heart of the monastery where the monks would have spent their daily lives, the workshops, bakeries, kitchens and library. For all the wanton damage imparted on its church, the monastery still retains an element of peace and tranquility. It was well worth the drive and scramble to get to it.

What a great shot and perspective on this amazing place, Roxy! Thank You for sharing it with us :)
Great series. This vertical image goes well with your first view image. Nicely composed and great parting shot. That must have been a great journey with an enlightening arrival. At least the return journey must be downhill and give you time to contemplate. Thanks for sharing all this.
I've missed some of these since I was traveling, so will go back & check them out when I have time. This is a fine view of this fascinating location & though more sophisticated architecturally, in it's basic geometric structure it reminds me of some of the native American cliff dwellings I've visited in the southwest...
A very amazing place and a great informative tour! Probably will not see the place for myself, so really appreciate you posting your photos and impressions - only sorry we can’t get the 16 mega pixel version :) Thanks Roxy!
fantastic panaorama,this place smells history.
Very beautiful closing image
Cool place and awesome shot..the people look staged..did you bribe them lol? Just kidding but it does remind me of a Poser scene without Poser making it even more interesting!
Excellent!! :)
What a wonderful photo Roxie, it was the perfect one to conclude on. I have really enjoyed this series.
Another beautiful capture, Roxy-sensei!

This is absolutely mind blowing, Roxy – both the structure and your photo of it! How lucky you are to be able to experience this firsthand..... And how lucky we are that you've taken us on this journey as well. I'm definitely looking forward to more of your explorations!

A great tour Roxy! I'd scramble to this given the opportunity.
The angles of all the photos you shared are just wonderful. You pick the best places of which to view these exotic locations! Thank you for sharing them.. I'm working backwards. LOL
Wondeful shot, Roxy!! :o)
beautiful, love the colors and lighting excellent work
The architectural styles fascinates me. Angled corners, old paths, romantic landscape. Protected in the rock and the roofs offer at the same time as sun terraced. As aerial view of the village as in stone beaten relief see!
I love the composition.
Beautiful photo!
wonderful work, every part looks perfect in this image,
When I was looking through the thumbnail in your gallery at first I thought is was the clift dwelling from southern Colorago then a reconstruction of them so I just had you look closser. To my delight it was in Turkey, a beautiful photo and now that I have seen the serries, many thanks for takein us along., Photosynthesis has some beautiful shots of the southwest cliff dwellings if you haven't seen them yet.
