Description
We spent five days with friends in South Dakota over Memorial Day weekend, and I couldn't help but think how much Carin would have liked the landscape. This is the view from the front porch of Ed and Rosy's place, looking out over the ranch.

Apart from being visually beautiful, this is a superbly composed image. An excellent use of the 'Rule of Thirds', cattle in the foreground, the line of trees in the mid-point and the mountains and sky. Really well done.
When I was a boy, my grandfather had a game we used to play to keep me from being too bored on long trips. Cows on my side of the car were worth one point, and on grandfathers side, also one point. If you passed a graveyard, whomever had the graveyard on their side, all their cows died. Game was over when you either crossed a railroad track, or came to a four way stop sign. This reminded me of the game.

Those tranquil looking and wide-open spaces, with wildlife around (maybe not quite as wild, in the way Carin is accustomed to) - but it's something to yearn for ... and could also be easily a South African landscape, methinks ? ... a lovely dedication for her Birthday, Tara BB

A state I've never visited. A very deep & evocative landscape & that gash of brown & the cattle break it up perfectly...
I think I like their front porch view a lot better than mine! This is really gorgeous, Tara! We're thinking about maybe going to South Dakota this year on my vacation. This shot is definite encouragement in that direction! :-)
