Description
This image is dedicated to Chipka and is in response to his image "Cracks" posted a few days ago. Both images play with texture as their main focus, though faded colors add to the emotive experience of Chip's work.
This was taken, two weeks ago on a photographing winter landscapes seminar. It is from a commercial building in an old mining Ghost Town in the front range of the Rockies. Over a hundred years ago somebody built a beautiful building, and though weathered and worn it is still standing today; a testimant to quality and pride of workmanship and perhaps to dreams of enduring that were not fulfilled. The town, now some 70 years abandoned, is however getting a taste of new life as it has been declared a National Historic Resource.

This wouldn't be on top of Guanella Pass would it? We found an old mining town up there half buried in the snow. There some great old monuments to the past still standing and their textures are pretty awesome. Love old farm equipment too, weathered, rusted and beaten. Great shot Roxy and a nice dedi :)
A fine textural piece with lots of character...
Nice!
Nice capture and dedi Hugs Susan
cool close up
what a sumptuous and lovely black and white--another excellent vantage point...makes you feel as if you are standing rigth there...
Excellant shot showing all the weathering the wood has taken through the years!
Roxy, this is a magnificent dedication for your friend.
Fantastic capture and very beautiful dedication to Chip
I always enjoy photography of architectural elements, and I am loving the close up here. The weathered textures are so rich. wonderful capture!
cool shot! love that aged wood Rox.
wonderful shot Roxy. Even though roughed up by time, the structure still stands. It may creak and it may moan a bit with each wintery blast, but it stands and endures...
Great capture :O-)
Fantastic capture!!!
Wonderful texture shot, especially like the nail contrast
excellent pic
See, now, I LOVE these kinds of B&W shots...It's actually like the B&W photography I do, as far as subject matter is concerned. GORGEOUS work & the textures turned out lovely!
Superb Capture and dedication Roxy:-))Also I'm happy to hear if that place under protection from now on as a "National Historic Resource" :-))) Thank you for the info my friend:-)))
lovely!
A really well seen and photographed texture image, Roxy. A nice dedication for Chip!
an interesting observation
I love the texture in this. Excellent pic!
Really great study in texture. I think color might detract from this, so good choice. Very cool image.
OK. Now that I'm done gawking, I can comment on this image. Actually, I'm still gawking! This is stunning, superb, and quite touching! THANK YOU for the dedication. I really love the way this pops and makes me think of all sorts of cool-texture things. I'd love to see this place in person and spend time looking at the various bits and pieces of it and seeing what stories they're likely to tell. I love it when old things get a new lease on life as well, whether as national treasures or simply subjects of brilliant, immortalizing art. This is really stunning and thank you for the dedication as well!
Wonderful photo, very interesting capture!
I like the POV a lot.
wonderful pov
I don't know how I missed these, but another great one here. You really do see the weathered texture in the wood so incredibly well the way you've shot it, and the focal at which you shot it. Great pov too. Beautiful work!! :)
Very nice close up study. I find myself curious about the rest of the building though.
Excellent
