Description
Spitfire undergoing its annual inspection in the hangar of the Historic Flight Collection, Paine Field, Everett, Washington.
Getting to see 'under the bonnet' is always a rare treat...
For those of you interested...notice the well known brand name on the top of the engine.

Magical Merlin, what a great and very detailed shot Bill, I built a rudimentary Merlin into my Lancaster, I could use this to detail it up a bit...(did you get any more ?) I love all the 'clutter' in the foreground, great reminder that they look good when 'displaying' but it's all down to hard work and a good tool kit.
A super picture of this wonderful Supermarine Spitfire and in superb condition.
Fascinating to see!
Fantastic and fascinating
Nice and sharp, and worth all the research. :)
Must be the same maker's of your camera
Well spent indeed Bill. This is spectacular, so clear. Thanks for posting this, any others you have will be most welcome.
Wonderful capture anf fabulous fly!!!
Rolls-Royce only made those pieces of stamped metal. The engines themselves were actually reconditioned from East German Trabis.....
It all looks very complicated but very clean :o) xx
HA! a Rolls-Royce :-) Excellent shot, Billl :)
Oh, so THAT's where the motor for my Rolls Royce disappeared to! (Big grin!) I find such "anatomical" photos fascinating! You lucky fellow to be able to see such and to photograph it! Keep up the good work! :-)
Superb capture Bill. God Bless.
Awesome! A Mk. IX Spitfire, and that orchestra some call a "Merlin". Fantastic photo!
splendid picture
great capture
That's a killer shot, Bill! You don't often get to see a Merlin in all its glory! This is really sharp and clear!
Another cracker shot Bill, and I can't wait to upgrade! Laughing at Andrew's comment! I have to poke myself to remind me that you can actually fly one of these, that's a great skill to possess!
Great shot... I'm sure there is one bolt left over though and they are still scratching their heads to work out where it belongs.... ;-)
Quite interesting engine :)
full zoom amazing details
seeing these captures sure make me want a 5D as well an equivalent quality lens
The Merlin, the saviour of Allied Aircraft Engines.. The list of aircraft that flew powered by this, is too long to put here, UK, US, and other nations used it.. Bombers, Fighters, Navel aircraft even trainers! Rolls Royce, that goodness! Brilliant Bill.. Rob
You caught these birds on a good day with their cowlings off and powerplants exposed!
