Description
A sign on the trailhead to this arch explains that although most arches form very slowly over time, a dramatic change occurred to this particular arch in 1940. A large boulder suddenly fell out of the left side of the arch, approximately doubling the size of the opening. The arch now has a span of 71 feet & a height of 33 feet. I will post a photo tomorrow from directly below the arch that I think may include a piece of that boulder in the foreground...

A fantastic picture again Claude and I love the info. I look forward to seeing your shot tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow! In the meantime, I wanted to see if I could find a picture from pre-1940 for comparison. Amazing, what you can find on the internet. That was a freakin' big boulder!
Superb capture
Cool
Constantly changing, just usually on a much slower schedule...beautiful!
Beautiful photo. I have been wondering how these all formed in the same place.
Beautiful place.
Superb pic.
SUPERLATIVE WORK!
Stunning the colors are amazing, I have been looking at rain and dark skies all day nice to see some sun.
Nicely done Claude. I was saying to Tara that we're going to have a hard time finding different ways to present these iconic images when we get to Utah in the spring.
wonderful landscape
A lovely capture and view. I now understand where the name came from!
