Description
An innocent angel with a broken heart. It will heal in time but, until then, there will be much pain.
Notes: I think I created the first version of this artwork in 2010 and then redid it in 2011 and now I've created a brand new version for 2013. I love this new version, it's much more "artsy" and dramatic. I didn't change too much from the 2011 version, mainly just enhanced and improved what was there plus I added some more detail. I postworked it in an entirely different way as well.
Technical Notes: The custom light setup was created with the aid of IDL Studio 2. The base render is rather plain looking actually. The real magic happened during the postwork process. I used several layers of different effects and adjustments plus some overlays to create the final look. I also painted cracks onto the heart and enhanced the red elements.

My renders come out looking rather plain too. As long as I've got shadows and color depth that's what I am looking forward. As with you, the magic comes in postwork. I like this style... it has a soft, earthiness about it. The facial expression is magical.
